Episode 8 – Synopsis
Our star presenters Nzinga and Milton remind us where we have been and why this episode features the most memorable events on this season’s show – all the tears and laughter, the loss, the relationships and dreams and achievements. In episode eight we look back over the weeks and relive the special moments and turning points with our characters. We remember where their journeys started and how they have grown and changed. We also see the progress they have made, rising up to challenges and overcoming them.
There are difficult choices to make between staying faithful and being unfaithful to a partner, leaving home or going back, telling the truth or lying and ultimately facing what the consequences of these choices bring for Barbara, Ntoro, Coffie, Rachel and Bolatch.
Barbara goes from being homeless and unmotivated on the streets of Kampala to becoming a young woman who goes about improving her life, and mapping out a plan for herself and her baby. She is now a youth activist who is going to use the media to spread the message of PMTCT.
Ntoro’s story has equally high emotional points when the stakes are both for and against him. But it is his actions that decide his fate when he ends up behind prison bars and is unable to get out. His family is distraught and Kitso is worried.
Bolatch has to choose between holding together the peace in his family or losing a good friend.
Rachel and her partner remind us that having a baby is a special thing that both partners can be part of. We see how Constantine steps up to the plate to be a supportive man to his pregnant partner, and a real example for other men to follow. Rachel reminds us that the most wonderful result of the PMTCT programme is the possibility of having a baby who is HIV free, with so many more prospects for its future.
i-reporters, Brenda, Kitso and Coulibaly move through challenging and special life experiences with the characters and we see the bonds of friendship and pacts of solidarity that are already forming.
